  • Global hawks return to Yokota to provide continuous support to joint partners, allies

    Pacific Air Forces will conduct a rotation of RQ-4 Global Hawks to Yokota Air Base, Japan, May 30, from Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, to ensure continuous operations in support of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command’s reconnaissance requirements. The rotation of Global Hawks, owned by the 319th Reconnaissance Wing Det. 1 to Yokota Air Base provides a stable location from which the platform can operate when inclement weather in Guam, including typhoon activities, historically hinder readiness.

    Members of the 36th Airlift Squadron, 459th Airlift Squadron and the 21st Special Operations Squadron out of Yokota Air Base, Japan, came together to complete a 17 aircraft Samurai Surge training exercise, May 21, 2020. The Samurai Surge exercise involved 17 aircraft for an elephant walk and a C-130 formation flight. Of those 17, two were CV-22 Osprey aircraft from the 353rd Special Operations Group. This event showcased the 374th Airlift Wing’s mission capability, adaptability and readiness to respond to disaster relief scenarios and contingency operations across Yokota’s area of responsibility to maintain regional stability in the Indo-Pacific, even in the face of an ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic.

    Misawa has a new “star” tearing up its airspace! On a day-to-day basis, Maj. Josiah “Sirius” Gaffney works at the 35th Operation Support Squadron as the assistant director of operations, helping to ensure Misawa’s airfield, range and support capacities are providing the highest level of quality and readiness possible for the two fighter squadrons on base and any aircraft that utilizes Misawa’s airspace or training assets. However, as of April 30, 2020, he stepped into a new role as the new Pacific Air Forces’ F-16 Fighting Falcon Demonstration Team pilot, at Misawa Air Base, Japan.
