Staff Sgt. Timothy Bidwell, 820th RED HORSE Squadron pavement and equipment supervisor, operates an excavator during construction of an aircraft parking spot during an expansive flight line apron expansion project at Yokota Air Base, Japan, Oct. 10, 2021. Participating in base construction projects provides Airmen confidence in skills they will later use to repair or build up locations in contested areas. RED HORSE Squadrons were created in 1965 in response to heavy engineering capability needs during the Vietnam War, where they provided expeditionary rapid base damage repair and airfield construction capability.
