March is Women's History Month and this year’s theme is "Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories." Team Yokota worked to photograph women across the installation to acknowledge their contributions to the U.S. Air Force mission in the Indo-Pacific and inspire a new generation of Airmen from March 17 to March 20.

"We recognize the accomplishments of women in the department and their contributions to national security, which helps maximize the department's warfighting capabilities,” stated Gilbert R. Cisneros Jr., under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness in a Feb. 27 memorandum.

He elaborated with several examples from across the Department of Defense, to include Capt. Rosemary Mariner, the first woman to command an operational naval aviation squadron during Operation Desert Storm, 1st Lt. Marina Hierl, the first woman in the Marine Corps to command an infantry platoon, and Capt Rhea McFarland, the first African American female C-17 pilot to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross for her leadership in Afghanistan.

The women of Yokota honor those who came before them by upholding a long legacy of valor and service. Continuing into 2023, we look forward to celebrating all monthly observances and recognizing Airmen of all backgrounds who have made lasting contributions to our Total Force.
